Greetings from Apiary in Tanzania -Vermin-<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the following episodes, I’m going to talk about our apiary site. There are lots differences between Tanzanian and Japanese beekeeping. Today’s topic is “vermin”, harmful insects and animals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At apiaries in Japan you’ll find vermin of ants and worms named Sumushi, meaning of hive-insect, and in autumn hornets. While ants steal honey from beehive box, the worms bring the weak family of bees into collapse, increasing its number of population. Hornets hunt bees as food for their larva, and even sometimes a group of hornets give an attack on the honeybee family and brings it to collapse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Tanzania bees are surrounded by the asperity, I bet. Not only ants you’ll find beetles from beehives. I hear that you’ll also find the worms in Tanzania as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not only insects that aim for honey in Tanzania, but “Honeybadger”, also as known as ratel. You may think well of this adorable animal until you know the fact that they break the hive for honey. This is why beehive boxes are being hung from tall trees so that they can’t reach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We believe that something against vermin above must be done, considering producing honey economically. It’s not efficient to put it down and up every time of observing, at least once a week. And loss of honey that’d be harvested. Now we are working on the issue for the purposes of harvesting bigger size of honey as well as more affordable honey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n
