Appeared on Monthly Magazine Ishigaki

Monthly Magazine Ishigaki for July having been published by The Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it tells what we had done in 18 months in Tanzania along surveys with JICA and will plan to do in the next. It also says how we have chosen Tanzania as our new apiary in Africa.

Tanzania has a potential for producing a further larger amount of honey with modern beekeeping skills and tools introduced. The Project Manager, Katsuumi Kobayashi, has already introduced the modern beekeeping skills and tools into Myanmar, where he found it difficult to do without partners who were used to working with the locals, local beekeepers and farmers. Instead, we have had plenty support in Tanzania from JICA and we have gotten access to Tanzanian government agencies which are in favor of working with us. This is how we think it easy to work with the local beekeepers and famers in Tanzania.

It is our aim that is what we hold apiaries overseas and build up an independent supply chain, “Apiary to Jar.” Through the surveys, we assume it is possible to build apiaries in Tanzania with modern beekeeping skills and tools. We also have seen some benefits of introducing modern beekeeping skills and tools. The amount of harvested honey was 4 times as much as the traditional beekeeping. With the honeybees engaged to pollination, the quantity of the harvest of sunflower seeds had an increase of 20-30% compared to the usual and the oil jumped up to 50%.

There still, however, remain some tasks needed to be solved for our aim. We are to keep implementing investigations with JICA in Tanzania by Dec. 2023. In the coming next three months we try to moderate bees, who originally have nature of savagery. Even in this pandemic we have kept struggling forward and won’t stop seeking for the way of an independent supply chain.
