タンザニア渡航
今回は前回のつづきでタンザニア養蜂プロジェクトリーダーの私が3回タンザニアを渡航したときの話を紹介します。
タンザニアの1回目の渡航は今までにない体験の連続でした。まず、みつばちの攻撃性に圧倒されました。攻撃性の高いアフリカナイズドみつばちは、北米で勢力を広げていて、養蜂家を苦しめていることは身をもって体験をしており知っていました。そのみつばちは、日本と同じ装備で大丈夫でした。なので、日本と同じ装備でタンザニアのアフリカナイズドみつばちに挑んだところ、養蜂場で手と足と顔に計100か所近く刺される結果となりました…。次回以降はフル装備で対応しました。
食べ物は比較的おいしいものばかりでした。一方、タンザニアといえばキリマンジャロコーヒー。しかしながら、3回の渡航合計で約30日滞在しましたが、どこのホテルにもインスタントコーヒーしか置いていませんでした。タンザニアではあまりコーヒー豆からコーヒーを入れて飲む習慣はないそうです。
JICA民間連携の基礎調査は2022年5月で終えましたが、案件化調査が採択されたため2022年9月ごろから2023年12月ごろまで引き続きタンザニア養蜂プロジェクトを継続します。また、タンザニアでの新たな報告ができることを楽しみにしています。

Business trip in Tanzania
Today I, a chief of this project, am telling you about what I’ve experienced in Tanzania through three-times visit.
I faced some experiences that I’d never had before through my first visitation in Tanzania. At first, I was surprised at the nature of aggressiveness of honeybees’ in Tanzania. I had experienced to face Africanized honey bees which’d brought serious problems to North American counties because of the aggressiveness. I’d made myself put in the same uniform I usually used for beekeeping in Japan then and it was okay, I didn’t get any stung at all. So I chose the uniform in Tanzania as well, but unfortunately I got almost 100 stings on my face, hands and legs… Now I’ve learned to have an overall fully covered uniform in Tanzania.
Second, the food in Tanzania are suitable for me. As for the coffee, Kilimanjaro is one of the most well-known coffee producing countries to Japan. I had been looking forward to having one in Tanzania. However, I found only instant coffee at the hotels’ breakfast in Tanzania… Now I notice that it is not common to have dripped coffee by Tanzanian people.
As Small and Medium-Size Enterprise (SME) Partnership Promotion Survey program for beekeeping in Tanzania came to the end in May 2022 and we have started the following project in Tanzania as SDGs Business Model Formulation Survey with the Private sector form September 2022 to January 2023. I am sure to tell you unordinary experience from Tanzania again.
