　今日は前回に引き続き、タンザニアの水回り事情に関してお伝えします。前回は友人の話も踏まえてタンザニアのシャワールームについてお伝えしました。前回、タンザニアのバスルームには入り口付近にバスマットとビーチサンダルが置いてあることをお伝えしました。そしてその意味も。今回は番外編として他にもバスルームで困ったなと思ったことをお伝えします。

　　あるホテルでのことです。バスルームの扉を開けると、まずドア付近にはバスマットもサンダルもなかったので安堵しましたが、…トイレの便器の横にシャワーカーテンも何もなく壁に蛇口が取り付けられていました。

これでは、普通に使ったら周囲数mがビショビショになってしまいます…。バスマットはシャワーのすぐ横に敷かれていました。このバスマット、どこに置くかが非常に「重要」です。あまりに近いところに置くとバスマットがずぶ濡れになって本来の役割を果たせません。遠すぎると、1歩でバスマットへたどり着けません。乾いたフロアを素足で歩くのは抵抗があるので、なんとしても１歩でたどり着く必要があります。短い脚を命一杯延ばしてバスマットへ移ったのですが、その無事着地したところは湿っていました。嗚呼…無念…私の頭の中でチーンという音が鳴り響いていました。

　それから、シャワーの蛇口を捻ってもお湯が出てこないことも当然のようにありました。開き直って、これは冷たいお湯だな～とやり過ごすことを覚えていました。普段如何に贅沢な暮らしを送っているのか感じざるを得ませんでした。日本に帰国した日に泊まったホテルのバスルームには、何の変哲もないバスルームだったんですが、感動してしまいました。

　そうしたカルチャーショックさえも楽しめればいいと思うのですが、それには心の余裕が必要です。その心の余裕を如何に保つか…その方法を渡航までに見つけておきたいと思います。

When I am puzzled in Tanzania No.2 Extra Edition

Today I’m going to tell you about bathrooms in Tanzania as I also told you last time. Last time I wrote the article with a Tanzanian friend’s help, and mentioned a bath rug and beach sandals are put near the door in the bathroom, and how to use them. This time I am telling you another puzzling situation which I’ve faced.

At another hotel, when I opened the door, I didn’t find any sandals nor any bath rugs, which eased me. However, I found a shower head equipped on the wall just next to the toilet without a curtain or wall.

That is, when using normally, around several meters it gets wet. A bath rug was put just next to a shower place. In this situation, it is really “important” where to put a bath rug: Too close, inevitably get wet, too far, fail to reach by one step. Because I do not feel like stepping barefoot on the floor, I absolutely needed to reach it by one step. I put the rug where my short leg seems to reach. When leaping over, I found the edge of the rug a little wet… Jesus…

Besides, it also happened as often said that no hot water came out. That is when I turned myself into an optimist. I said to myself that this was “cold hot-water.” This is how I can not help realizing how luxurious my life in Japan is. On the first night back in Japan, I was actually moved by the bathroom equipped to the hotel room where I stayed. Though the bathroom was very “normal”, typical Japanese hotel’s.

I wish I even enjoy those shocks. Perhaps I need some space in my mind so that I could keep my mind open. So how to keep that space….? I should definitely find out the way till the next visit.
