タンザニア　ローカルフード 1

　今日は、日本でラーメンや定食屋さんのような、気軽なタンザニアの食事をご紹介いたします。都市間の車移動は、だいたい7時間ぐらいかかります。食事場所はどうしても田舎になってしまうので、イタリアンや中華など日本人に馴染みのある食事に出会ったことがありません。日本の定食屋さんで親子丼、かつ丼、魚定食、生姜焼き定食…とラインナップが大体決まっているのと同じように、どのタンザニアの食堂に行っても、大体同じメニューを揃えています。渡航回数を重ねタンザニアローカルフードにも慣れてきたので、毎回大冒険をしなくても済むようになりました。今回から数回に分けて、タンザニアの食堂から１品づつご紹介いたします。

　今回ご紹介するのは、チプシー　マヤイ(Chipsy Mayai)。　直訳すると、「フライドポテトたまご」。フライドポテトの入ったオムレツです。味つけは殆どされておらず、マヨネーズや甘めのケチャップと一緒に提供されます。他のメニューは比較的、辛かったり(辛いものが得意ではないため)、ニンニクが入っていたり(ニンニクが苦手のため)、また量が結構多いので、私が安心して注文できるメニューの一つです。日本で人気のふわっとしたオムレツとは違い、しっかりと焼かれた固めのオムレツです。道端でフライドポテトを売っている様子をよく見かけるので、比較的どこの地元の食堂でも食べられるのだと思います。タンザニア旅行に行かれた際、迷ったらをまずはこちらを召し上がってみてはいかがでしょうか？

Tanzanian Local Food

Today I’m going to tell you about Tanzanian local food. It’s about 7 hours to transport from one city to another and inevitable to have lunch in the rural areas. So I haven’t encountered familiar food like Italian or Chinese on the way. As bakeries in France you usually see almost same line of bread, like baguette, croissant…, same in Tanzania, at whichever local restaurant you’ll probably see almost the same series of dish-options. I had made a venture at the all local restaurants until I got used to. I’m going to tell you about local food from Tanzanian restaurants in following several episodes.

Today’s dish is “Tipsy Mayai”, literally Chipsy Egg in Swahili. It’s omelette with French fries / Chips. I think the taste is thin usually. Sweet ketchup and mayonnaise are served along with the dish. Since other meal option is too spicy, I’m not fond to, or garlic-taste, I’d like to avoid, or has big quantity, I choose Tipsy Mayai at ease. Unlike Japanese preferable fluffy omelette, it is well-fried thick one. Considering from French fries / Chips are well seen on the street, Tipsy Mayai is one of very easily available food at any local restaurants. Why don’t you try during your stay?
